October's new movie releases

Aria Meixel, A&E Editor

There are tons of movies coming out this October. If any of these sound interesting to you, grab a few friends and take a break from studying for a few hours to go catch one in theaters!

Arthur Fleck, a failed comedian, wanders Gotham City searching for connection, a way to feel less alone. His day job as a clown requires him to wear a mask of paint, but he also tries to be someone he isn’t in an attempt to fit in with those around him. Shunned by society, Fleck slowly spirals into insanity as he becomes the infamous criminal, Joker. Starring Joaquin Phoenix, this thrilling movie is coming out on October 4th.

The Addams Family

America’s favorite spooky family is coming to the silver screen in animation this month. When the Addamses move into a new home in New Jersey, they have to come to terms with the 21st century and try to ward off a conniving reality TV show host, Margaux Needler. In the midst of all this, they’re trying to prepare for a visit from extended family. Starring Oscar Isaac, Charlize Theron, Chloë Grace Moretz, Finn Wolfhard, and Nick Kroll, this comedic horror is coming to theaters on October 11th.

Gemini Man

Will Smith stars as ace assassin Henry Brogan, a man who finds himself hunted by someone who appears to predict every move he makes. However, he soon discovers that this man is in fact a younger, fiercer clone of himself. Henry must find out the truth behind his clone’s creation and save him from traveling the same dark path that he did, while fighting against a corrupt organization that wants to “retire” him. Catch this adrenaline-fueled movie on October 11th.

Jojo Rabbit

In the midst of World War II, young Jojo Betzler, a lonely child, finds out that his mother is hiding a Jewish girl in their attic. Jojo must question his country’s blind nationalism and his own ideologies with the help of his imaginary friend, an idiotic version of Adolf Hitler. Written, directed by, and starring Taika Waititi as Hitler and with Roman Griffin Davis as Jojo, this black comedy is sure to bring a slew of laughs on October 18th.

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil

The sequel to Disney’s 2014 “Maleficent,” Angelina Jolie returns as the titular character in this dark fantasy film. Five years after the events of the first movie, Prince Philip proposes to Aurora, throwing Maleficent’s peaceful life as the protector of the Moors off course. Philip’s mother, Queen Ingrith, plans to use this to divide the human and fairy world forever, and when Aurora and Maleficent find themselves on opposite sides, they must decide if they can really be a family. Find out if they can on October 18th.

Zombieland Double Tap

Ten years after the first “Zombieland,” Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin reprise their roles as survivors of a zombie apocalypse that have been thrown together and have formed a makeshift sort of family. The four travel to America’s heartland to face off against a new form of evolved zombies, meeting more survivors and figuring out how to live with each other. The dead will rise on October 18th.
